rooted in and inspired by the teachings of pythagoras’ seven sacred vowels, AUREUMBRA (golden shadow) invites exploration into threshold consciousness and the mysterious through deep listening of meditational sitar and harmonium melodies and cascading vocal harmonies set to the rhythms of the breath, heart and cerebrospinal fluid and soundscapes of analogue singing bowls, chimes, bells, gongs and percussive instruments with the intention to invoke and facilitate a state of cellular, emotional and spiritual realignment.
AUREUMBRA is the aural offering of multiinstrumentalists buffy marie lauer and jared warren. currently based in olympia, washington, buffy is a licensed acupuncturist, herbalist, craniosacral therapist, somatic experiencing practitioner, birth and death doula, ritual attendant and spiritual guide who utilizes many modalities in her intuitive healing practice, including but not limited to sound healing, ceremonial tattoo, and the clandestine arts of daoist internal cultivation.
while AUREUMBRA is a collaboration at its heart, the material is often performed as a solo endeavor, utilizing pre-recorded backing tracks of various percussion instruments, harmonium and sitar, captured by jw and bml, with live improvisational vocals and instrumentation by bml +/- jw.
AUREUMBRA has had the honor to play cascadian yule xv, hypnagogia sleep festival, and various art openings, small venues and tea houses around the san francisco bay area.
